The Fun Thing About Making Your Own Stickers

The Fun Thing About Making Your Own Stickers

There was a point when I realized I wasn't making stickers because I needed stickers.

I was making them because they were fun.

That might sound obvious, but somewhere along the way I think a lot of us forget that creativity doesn't always need a bigger purpose. Not every creative project has to become a product, a masterpiece, or even something we keep forever.

Sometimes creativity can simply be a tiny drawing that makes us smile.

That's exactly what happened when I started experimenting with handmade stickers.

Small Projects Feel Less Intimidating

One of the things I love about handmade stickers is that they're small.

A full sketchbook page can feel intimidating.

A canvas can feel intimidating.

Even a journal spread can sometimes feel intimidating.

But a sticker?

A sticker can be a tiny mushroom, a leaf, a cup of coffee, a favorite book, or a silly doodle that took five minutes to create.

There's something freeing about working small. It lowers the pressure and makes creativity feel approachable again.

Creativity Doesn't Have to Be Serious

When I started testing different sticker-making methods, I expected to find a "best" option.

Instead, I discovered something much more valuable.

Each method felt different.

Some felt messy.
Some felt polished.
Some felt practical.
Some felt playful.

And honestly, that was the fun part.

Experimenting reminded me that creativity isn't always about getting the perfect result. Sometimes it's about being curious enough to try something new and see what happens.

That's one of the reasons I believe creative journaling can be so powerful. It gives us permission to play without needing a bigger reason.

Handmade Stickers Tell Your Story

There are thousands of sticker packs available online.

And I love a good sticker pack.

But there's something special about using a sticker you made yourself.

Maybe it's a flower you sketched during a coffee shop visit.

Maybe it's a doodle inspired by a favorite memory.

Maybe it's a design that reflects your personality in a way store-bought stickers never could.

Handmade stickers have a way of making creative journaling feel more personal. They're tiny pieces of creativity that carry a little bit of your own story.

The Best Method Is the One You'll Actually Use

One of my biggest takeaways from this experiment was realizing that there isn't a single "right" way to make stickers.

Some people love drawing directly onto sticker paper.

Others enjoy creating designs digitally and printing them.

Some prefer cutting and gluing paper pieces into their journals.

All of them count.

Personally, I found myself reaching for Sticker paper the most because it was simple, convenient, and easy to keep using.

But the method isn't really the point.

The creativity is.

Creativity Creates More Creativity

One thing I've noticed over the years is that creativity tends to build momentum.

A small doodle leads to another doodle.

A sticker leads to a journal page.

A journal page sparks a new idea.

The more opportunities we give ourselves to create, the easier it becomes to keep showing up.

That's why I love projects like this.

Not because they produce perfect results, but because they help keep the creative spark alive.

A Gentle Reminder

You don't need to be an illustrator to make stickers.

You don't need fancy supplies.

And you certainly don't need a reason beyond, "This sounds fun."

Sometimes the smallest creative projects end up bringing the most joy.

A handmade sticker might seem like a tiny thing.

But so often, creativity begins with tiny things.

Have you ever made your own stickers or personalized something just because it made you smile? I'd love to hear about your favorite small creative project in the comments below.
