Jar Full of Joy: Capture 2025’s Best Moments
What if you could capture the little moments that make life sweet and hold onto them for an entire year? That’s exactly what this idea is about—a simple jar, 52 notes, and a whole lot of gratitude. Each week, you’ll jot down a highlight from your life and add it to your jar. By the end of 2025, you’ll have a collection of memories to pour out and relive, reminding yourself of all the joy, love, and victories that filled your year.
This practice isn’t just fun—it’s powerful. It’s a way to build gratitude, boost your mood, and savor the small moments you might otherwise forget. Ready to get started? Let’s make your Jar of Joy!

Let's Get Started!
Step 1: Find the Perfect Jar
You don’t need anything fancy; any jar will do! Pick one up at a store or, for a budget-friendly option, swing by a thrift shop. Look for something large enough to hold 52 folded notes. Don’t overthink this step—it’s all about giving yourself a dedicated space to store your weekly moments until you open them at the end of the year.
Step 2: Decorate Your Jar
This step is optional but highly encouraged! A decorated jar adds personality and can help keep this project top of mind. Plus, it’s a fun craft that lets you get creative. Here are three ways to make your jar stand out:
Pressed Flowers & Burlap Charm
- Supplies: Mod Podge, pressed flowers, burlap string, and a brush.
- Paint a layer of Mod Podge where you want the flowers to stick. Arrange your flowers, then seal them with another coat of Mod Podge. Let it dry, then wrap burlap string around the jar's neck and tie a bow. Rustic, elegant, and oh-so-charming!
Painted Perfection
- Supplies: Gesso, acrylic paint, acrylic markers, and brushes.
- Brush on a layer of gesso to prep the jar for painting. Once dry, paint with your favorite colors (try a gradient or ombre!). Add details with acrylic markers—stars, swirls, or even “2025.” Make it your own and have fun experimenting!
Mosaic Masterpiece
- Supplies: Pre-cut mosaic pieces and glue.
-
Lay out the mosaic pieces flat to plan your design. Once you’re happy, glue them onto the jar. Work in sections, letting each side dry before rotating. The result? A stunning, unique jar that’s ready to fill with memories.
Step 3: Set Up Your Note Station
To make this habit easy and stress-free, prep a stack of note paper and keep it next to your jar. Sticky notes, decorative paper, or colorful scraps work great—whatever makes you happy! Add a pen or pencil, so everything you need is in one place. This way, there’s no scrambling to find supplies, and you’re more likely to stick with it.
Step 4: Keep It Simple
When it’s time to write your weekly note, don’t overthink it. Your entry can be as small as “Enjoyed coffee with a friend” or as big as “Got a promotion at work!” The goal is to recognize the good things happening in your life, big or small, and train yourself to see the positive.
Set a reminder on your phone for the same day each week. It’s a tiny moment of reflection just for you.
Step 5: Celebrate at Year’s End
Fast forward to December 31, 2025: You’ll open your jar and revisit a year’s worth of happiness. Each note will bring a smile, a laugh, or even a tear of joy. This little time capsule of gratitude will remind you just how rich and meaningful life can be.

Where Will Your Jar Go?
I’m keeping mine next to my bed, so I can write my note every Sunday night before falling asleep. Where will you keep yours? On your desk? Your kitchen counter? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your ideas and see how your jars turn out!
Let’s make 2025 a year to remember, one joyful note at a time. Sending you all the good vibes for an amazing year ahead—you deserve it!

Love this! My husband and I have been doing a gratitude jar for the every year since 2017. Same idea of writing small on strips of paper throughout the year and then reading them at the end. We put them into our large memory book so we can look back on previous years. Really helps me see even in difficult years there were experiences to be grateful for. With that said I had never thought to decorate the jar!!! You blew me away with these ideas. Usually I just write the year and title on a plain piece of paper and tape it to the jar. Now I’m excited to try some of your ideas! Thank you 💕
