5 Ways to Add Whimsy to Your Workspace
Finding Magic in the Everyday
Lately, I’ve been hearing the word whimsy more and more — and honestly, I love it. Life can get chaotic and overwhelming, and sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference. I’ve found that adding a touch of whimsy to my workspace has made it feel lighter, more creative, and more me.
It’s easy to think our desks are just for productivity, but what if they could also be little reflections of our happy places? Here are five small, joyful ways I’ve brought a bit of magic into my space — and maybe they’ll spark something in yours, too.
1. My Purple Cursor
Just the other night, a friend showed me how to change my computer cursor color. I had no idea you could do that! Now I have a little purple cursor zipping around my screen, and even though it’s such a tiny change, it makes me smile every single time I see it.
It’s funny how something so simple can make the mundane a bit more delightful. Sometimes whimsy doesn’t have to be big or expensive — it just has to make you happy.

2. My Positive Duck
One of my favorite desk companions is my crochet Positive Duck. He’s small, cheerful, and holds a little sign that says:
“I may be a tiny duck, but I believe in you! Go do your thing! You’re ducking awesome!”
It’s silly and sweet, but honestly? I think we all need that reminder from time to time. Having something playful nearby helps me stay grounded when things get stressful — like a quiet nudge to take life a little less seriously.
3. My Happy Plants
I’ve also got a few plants in my office, and they’ve brought so much life into the space. One of them — affectionately named Wild Child by my Twitch audience — has vines that hang down and dance all over the place.
They’ve really thrived in the spot I chose, and watching them grow makes me feel like the space itself is happy. There’s something calming about caring for plants; they remind me to take a breath, soak up some sunlight, and grow at my own pace, too.
4. My Warm Glow
While I don’t have colorful lighting, I do have some soft, dangling lights above my window. At night, they give off the warmest glow while I’m working — like tiny stars keeping me company.
Lighting has such a quiet power. It changes the mood, softens the edges, and makes everything feel a little cozier. It’s become one of those small rituals that help me unwind and ease into my creative flow.

5. My Art on the Walls
And of course — the art. I’ve hung up a few of my own pieces on my walls. They’re not perfect, but they tell my story. Each one is a reminder of the moments I created them — the colors I chose, the emotions I felt, and the growth I’ve made.
Surrounding myself with my own art keeps me inspired and encourages me to keep going, even on days when motivation feels far away. It’s a reflection of my creative journey and a gentle nudge that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
Final Thoughts
Adding whimsy to your workspace isn’t about decor or trends — it’s about connection. It’s about noticing the little things that make you smile, spark your imagination, or make the day feel just a little lighter.
Whether it’s a purple cursor, a funny little duck, or a plant with a name, it’s those small touches that remind us that joy can be found anywhere — even while we’re working.
