Starting My New Podcast: Canvas & Conversations
I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while, and I finally decided to just go for it—I started a podcast! It’s called Canvas & Conversations, and honestly, the name wasn’t even my idea alone. I couldn’t decide between a few options, so I ran a poll with my community, and Canvas & Conversations came out on top. It feels perfect: a space for creativity, connection, and real, honest conversations.
I didn’t want this podcast to feel stiff or overly polished. My goal is to create a place where anyone—no matter your skill level or medium—can feel like they belong. A space with no judgment, no expectations, and definitely no perfection required. Just the joy of creating and sharing stories together.
The 4 Types of Episodes
To keep things fun (and a little unpredictable), I’ve broken the podcast into four episode styles:
-
Audio Logs – my personal reflections, art projects, little lessons, and ideas.
-
Interviews – chats with other creatives, sharing their journeys and unique perspectives.
-
Deep Dives – follow-ups to my Wednesday blog posts, where I unpack things more fully.
-
Creative Meditations – prompts, exercises, or quiet moments to help spark creativity and fight off artist’s block.
Think of it as a mix of storytelling, inspiration, and encouragement—like sitting down with a friend who gets what it’s like to be an artist.
How It All Came Together
One of the first things I did was design the logo in Canva (because of course). And then, instead of setting up a fancy studio, I tried recording outside at the park. To my surprise, it felt… perfect. Relaxing. Freeing. Just me, my mic, the fresh air, and some time to myself. It made the whole process feel more natural, like I was talking to a friend instead of performing.
I also went back and forth on whether to make this a video podcast. In the end, I chose to keep it audio-only for now. Part of the freedom I want is the ability to record anywhere—at the park, on a walk, maybe even while traveling someday. I don’t want equipment and setup to get in the way of creativity.
Why I’m Doing This
At the heart of it, I started Canvas & Conversations because I wanted to build a creative community where everyone feels welcome. Whether you’re a painter, a writer, a digital artist, or someone who just doodles in the margins of a notebook—you belong here.
This podcast isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up, being honest, and connecting through creativity.
Have a Listen
The intro episode is already live (I’ve embedded it here), so you can get a feel for what this podcast is all about. If you have questions, or if you’re interested in being interviewed, I’d love to hear from you—just send me an email at devyn@mindovermatastudio.com.
I’m excited (and a little nervous), but mostly I’m grateful. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
