A Self-Care Reset For Rainy Days
This week, I hit a wall. Emotionally, physically… everything just felt heavy. I didn’t want to get out of bed. My motivation tanked, my body was drained, and my brain was stuck in that gray fog. So I didn’t fight it. I let myself sleep in. I doom scrolled, I laid under the blankets, and I watched movies all day.
It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t artsy. But it was still rest.
There’s a quote I’ve heard before—something like:
“It’s okay to take a day to be a bum, just don’t unpack and live there.”
And that really sums up what I was feeling. I knew I needed a break—but also that if I stayed too still for too long, I’d get stuck there. One off day can quickly turn into three… and then an entire week passes without doing anything that fills you up.
So the next day, I decided I needed a gentle reset. Not a full-blown productivity spree. Just something different. Something soft and small to help shift the energy.
My Creative Reset: A Trip to the Library
It was rainy and thunder storming—so my usual plan of heading to the park was off the table. I needed another cozy, quiet option that didn’t require spending money or a ton of effort. So I packed up my backpack and went to the library.
I brought a few simple things with me:

While I was there, I journaled out how I’d been feeling. No pressure to be poetic—just an honest brain dump to clear the fog. I started a new book. I browsed around and even put a book on hold for my next book club meeting.
And honestly? It helped.
I didn’t fix everything in one outing. But I left feeling lighter. More grounded. And proud of myself for doing something small to break the slump.
The Power of Tiny Resets
This wasn't a fancy self-care day. I didn’t paint. I didn’t organize my space. I didn’t even do yoga or light a candle. I just got out of the house.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mental health is to simply change your environment—especially if you work from home. Remote work can quietly isolate you without you realizing it. So any small adventure—like heading to the library, grabbing a coffee, or journaling in a different spot—can bring clarity.
It doesn’t have to cost anything. You just have to go.
